Description
An antique steam engine indicator set manufactured by the Crosby Steam Gage and Valve Co. of Boston, housed in a fitted, stained hardwood case. The set includes a nickel-plated brass steam indicator featuring a rotating paper drum and stylus linkage mechanism. Also included are a brass three-way indicator valve with a black wooden handle, a wooden-handled cord hook with a bundle of cord, and small cylindrical metal accessories. The main cylindrical body of the indicator is engraved with text including CROSBY STEAM GAGE / and VALVE CO. BOSTON, patent details including PATENT SEPT. 5, and the number 973. The hardwood case is constructed with brass hardware, featuring side-mounted hook-and-eye latches, a diamond-shaped brass escutcheon, and a heavy brass carrying handle.
Height: 9.5 inches. Pickup is Friday, July 31, from Noon to 7 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item. Condition report:
The set displays age-appropriate wear throughout. Metal surfaces show tarnish and areas of light surface corrosion. The hardwood box and wooden handles exhibit minor surface scratches, scuffs, and wear to the finish consistent with age and previous industrial use.
