July Gallery Auction
Lot 28905:
Description
This is a classical nylon-string acoustic guitar manufactured by Alvarez, designated as Artist Model 5002. The instrument features a natural-finish wood top with a tight, straight grain, likely spruce or cedar. The back and sides are composed of a figured tonewood with a reddish-brown hue and prominent grain, consistent with mahogany, and the back is designed with a two-piece construction featuring a decorative central marquetry strip. The neck matches the tonewood of the body and is fitted with a dark-stained fretboard, likely rosewood. The headstock is a slotted design with a mahogany-style veneer and features ornate, engraved silver-tone tuning machine plates with white pearloid buttons. Decorative appointments include a multi-colored concentric ring rosette around the soundhole and dark binding along the top and back edges of the body. The interior label contains a large red letter A centered in a black ring printed with ALVAREZ ARTIST, along with the serial number 51469 and model number 5002. A gold-tone sticker on the back of the neck identifies the origin as Made in Korea. The guitar is accompanied by a black soft-sided gig bag with red contrast stitching and a blue square hangtag from an Almost Perfect Alvarez Sale. Also present is a yellow Sigma Guitar Warranty Registration booklet, though it contains handwritten details for a different instrument (Style SCR 8).
