Description
An American full-size violin by maker A. L. Jones of Warren, Ohio. The instrument features a spruce top and a two-piece back, ribs, and neck constructed of highly flamed maple with a pronounced horizontal figure. It is equipped with an ebony fingerboard, tailpiece, and tuning pegs, and includes a black plastic chin rest. Two internal labels are visible: a printed label that reads A. L. JONES, VIOLIN MAKER, WARREN, OHIO, U. S. A., No. 23, 1905; and a handwritten label that reads No. 23, Made by A. L. Jones, Warren, Ohio 1905. The lot includes one bow with a round dark wood stick and an ebony frog featuring a mother-of-pearl eye. One side of the bow stick is stamped ARTIST and the other bears a worn stamp reading THIBOUVILLE-LAMY. The violin is accompanied by a vintage coffin-style shaped hardshell case with a black textured exterior and a purple plush-lined interior. Included accessories are a box of Hidersine No. 3V violin rosin, an extra wooden bridge, a metal mute, and a small metal adjustment tool.

Condition report:
The instrument exhibits significant age-related wear to the varnish, most notably on the top plate, upper bouts, and edges. Visible scuffing, surface scratching, and minor chipping to the purfling and edges are present. The neck shows finish wear from use. While no major open cracks are immediately visible, a professional setup and inspection are recommended. The bow hair is aged and requires replacement. The case shows heavy exterior scuffing, hardware wear, and fraying to the interior lining.
