Description
This is a vintage Barber-Colman Company thermocouple pyrometer, model A 3139, produced by the Industrial Instruments Division in Rockford, Illinois. The instrument is an analog temperature indicator featuring a galvanometer-type movement designed to operate with an external thermocouple. The internal mechanism is composed of brass and cast metal alloy components. The curved paper scale is marked from 0 to 600 degrees Fahrenheit in 10-degree increments and is inscribed with Serial No. 16L8228, Ext. Res. 15, and TC. A circular label on the metal frame identifies the unit as Remanufactured by Barber Colman Company. An original manufacturer paper tag is attached to the wiring with connection instructions. The instrument is housed in its original wooden transport box, which includes a side label identifying the model, serial number, and range, and notes its status as remanufactured stock. The box lid is stamped with shipping instructions. Pickup is Friday, July 31, from Noon to 7 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item. Condition report:
The pyrometer appears to be in good vintage condition. The internal mechanism is clean and appears complete. The scale is well-preserved and legible. As noted by the manufacturer labels, this unit was professionally remanufactured and recalibrated by Barber-Colman. The wooden storage box shows age-related wear, including surface staining and scuffing, but is structurally sound. Functionality is untested.
