Description
Late Victorian era cropped bolero jacket or evening bodice, circa 1890s. The garment is constructed from a gold-tone woven textile featuring a diamond-grid texture and a repeating pattern of dark brown circular floral motifs with a velvet finish. The interior is fully lined with a dark brown satin-weave fabric. This short-waisted jacket features an open front without visible closures and a deep V-neckline. The short sleeves are styled in a voluminous gigot or leg-o-mutton shape, heavily gathered at the shoulder and armscye to create a structured puff. Internal construction shows hand-finished seams around the armholes. No labels or maker marks are present.
Width from sleeve edge to sleeve edge: approximately 20 inches. Pickup is Friday, July 31, from Noon to 7 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item. Condition report:
The garment shows significant age-related wear and structural damage. Both underarm areas exhibit prominent dark green and brownish staining. There is substantial fabric shattering and tearing at the seams where the sleeves join the bodice. Visible fraying and loose threads are present at the sleeve hems, neckline, and bottom hem. The interior lining shows general wear, spotting, and fraying at the armhole seams.
