Description
This lot features two sets of vintage binoculars, each accompanied by its specific leather carrying case. The first instrument is a pair of Porro prism binoculars manufactured by Asahi Optical Co. of Japan. This Jupiter model features a metal body with a black textured vulcanite or leatherette grip and coated glass optics. The left prism cover is inscribed ASAHI OPTICAL CO. No 72943 COATED OPTICS, while the right cover reads ASAHI Jupiter 8 X 30 Field 8 degrees. A diamond-shaped logo containing the word JAPAN is visible on the hinge cap. The instrument is equipped with a center focus wheel and an adjustable right-side diopter eyepiece. It includes a custom brown pebbled-leather case with a red velvet-lined interior, with the lid interior marked in gold script ASAHI Jupiter and an attached leather shoulder strap.
The second instrument is a pair of German military-style field glasses (Feldstecher) manufactured by Carl Zeiss Jena. These 6x magnification glasses feature a brass body with a black finish and textured grips. The left prism cover is marked M 9 / Z 6 x / mit Skala / Feldstecher, indicating the presence of an internal measuring reticle or scale. The right prism cover bears the lens-shaped Carl Zeiss Jena logo. This pair utilizes individual eyepiece focusing rather than a central wheel and includes a thin leather neck strap. The accompanying smooth brown leather case features a black felt-lined interior and a belt loop on the reverse. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos. But, we are not able to guarantee authenticity or era of items in the sale. Pickup is Wednesday, July 15, from Noon to 5 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
