Description

This is a World War I era steel helmet of the Brodie pattern, consistent with the British Mark I or United States Model 1917 designs. The helmet is constructed from a non-magnetic manganese steel shell featuring a shallow bowl and a wide, circular brim finished with a separate stainless steel rim strip. The exterior is finished in olive drab paint with a heavy sand or sawdust texture designed to provide a matte, non-reflective surface. The interior retains two rectangular metal chin strap lugs, each secured to the shell by a single rivet. A circular gray felt crown pad is present in the interior, which was a standard component of the original liner system. Faint markings are visible on the interior brim but are not legible. The liner and chin strap are missing.
