July Military Auction
Lot 26623:
Description
This collection consists of several pieces of gold-colored metal United States Army officer-grade insignia, primarily dating from the mid-to-late 20th century. The group includes a large service cap device featuring the Great Seal of the United States, an officer’s “U.S.” block-letter collar insignia, and a matched pair of Quartermaster Corps branch insignia. The Quartermaster pins feature a gold-colored metal design with a blue enameled wagon wheel containing thirteen stars, overlaid with a crossed sword and key and surmounted by a spread-winged eagle. A handwritten note on the mounting card for the branch insignia references “Ameracraft” and a “snowflake” pattern, a term used by collectors to describe a specific textured finish on the reverse of mid-century insignia. A sticker near the “U.S.” pin identifies it as likely being manufactured by the L.G. Balfour Company. All items are equipped with standard brass clutch-back fasteners.
