This collection of World War II era paper ephemera consists of four informational and instructional booklets related to military training and home front defense in the United States and Canada, dated circa 1940 to 1942.

The first item is titled What To Do In An Air Raid: Official Bulletin of Civilian Defense, Chicago Metropolitan Area, dated August 1942. It was issued by the Office of Civilian Defense, Chicago Metropolitan Area, and published by Marshall Field and Company. This softcover, stapled wrap booklet contains instructions for Chicago residents regarding blackout procedures, air raid warnings, and conduct for pedestrians and motorists. The text is supplemented by numerous photographs and diagrams and includes a printed signature of United States Coordinator Edward J. Kelly.

The second item is a Handbook of Information for the Army Ground Forces Replacement Depot No. 1 at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland, dating to the early 1940s. This orientation booklet for newly arrived soldiers includes information on base services including mail, laundry, medical care, and religious services. It features a fold out map of the depot and the back cover is formatted as a postcard for mailing.

The third item is titled Pilots, Observers and Air Gunners for Royal Air Force, published under the authority of Major the Honourable C. G. Power, Minister of National Defence for Air in Canada. This recruitment and informational booklet for the Royal Canadian Air Force includes descriptions of crew roles, training schedules, aircraft identification for models such as the Fleet Finch, Tiger Moth, and Harvard, and a chart of RCAF ranks and badges.

The fourth item is a pocket sized Civilian Defense Index for Summit County, copyrighted in 1942 by R. Lichter. The back cover features advertising for Herron and Meyer regarding Gastex and Pelletex. It contains condensed first aid and civilian defense instructions, including diagrams of pressure points for bleeding, fracture care, gas protection, and a guide to Civilian Defense Corps insignia. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos. But, we are not able to guarantee authenticity or era of items in the sale. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
