Description

This pair of American Civil War commemorative busts, dated 1985, is the work of artist John Chalk. The sculptures are crafted from cold-cast bronze resin, featuring a dark brown patina. One bust depicts a Union soldier wearing a forage cap, and the other depicts a Confederate soldier in a slouch hat. Each figure is mounted on a square wooden plinth; the Union soldier base features a circular medallion embossed with US, while the Confederate soldier base features a similar medallion embossed with CS. Both pieces are incised on the reverse with the characters © 1985 T. CHALK. The underside of the bases includes an oval gold foil manufacturer label for THE CT PARTNERSHIP of Birchrunville, PA. One base is hand-numbered 39 in white ink. The underside of each base is finished with four felt protective pads.
