Description
This collection consists of ten hand-painted wooden plaques representing the United States Marine Corps 2nd Marine Division and its various subordinate units during the World War II era. Each plaque is shield-shaped and features hand-painted unit-specific iconography. The primary plaque represents the 2nd Marine Division, featuring a red shield with the “Follow Me” spearhead insignia, a yellow torch with the numeral 2, and the five stars of the Southern Cross constellation.
The remaining nine plaques feature a uniform design of a blue field with white Southern Cross stars and a central red diamond containing specific unit symbols. These include the 2nd Marine Raider Battalion (skull), the 2nd Parachute Battalion (parachute), the 10th Marine Regiment (crossed artillery cannons), the 2nd Engineer Battalion (winged castle), an Amphibian Tractor Battalion (silhouette of a Landing Vehicle Tracked), an Infantry Regiment (large central star), and a Service or Headquarters unit (white shield). Two plaques feature plain red diamonds. Each plaque is constructed of flat wood with the central insignia elements carved or applied as a separate raised layer before painting.

Subordinate Unit Plaques: 13.5 inches x 12.5 inches. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos. Pickup is Wednesday, July 15, from Noon to 5 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
