Description
A United States Marine Corps enlisted service green wool uniform set dating from the World War I era, consistent with the M-1912 or M-1917 pattern. The uniform set comprises a matching tunic and trousers constructed from heavyweight Marine Green forest green wool serge.
The tunic is designed with a standing mandarin collar, a five-button front closure, and integral wool shoulder epaulets. It features four exterior pockets, consisting of two pleated breast pockets and two large bellows-style hip pockets, all featuring pointed flaps. The sleeves terminate in cuffs detailed with pointed V-shaped stitching. The interior of the tunic is partially lined with a tan cotton drill fabric and includes a single internal pocket slit on the left side.
The matching trousers feature a button-up fly, a waistband lined with white cotton fabric, belt loops, and buttons for suspender attachment. The ankle openings are fitted with adjustable tabs for wear with puttees or leggings.
The buttons on the tunic and trousers are bronze-toned metal featuring the embossed United States Marine Corps Eagle, Globe, and Anchor emblem surrounded by stars. The reverse of the fly buttons and snaps are stamped with U.S. MARINE CORP’S. The uniform does not display any rank chevrons or unit insignia.
