July Military Auction
Lot 25390:
Description
A vintage United States Navy white dress jumper, frequently referred to as a Crackerjack, constructed from heavy white cotton twill. The garment features a classic V-neck opening and contains an internal breast pocket accessible through a vertical slit on the right chest. Notable construction details include hand-sewn tripod crowsfoot reinforcements at the base of the neck opening and at both ends of the pocket slit. The shoulder seams are finished with red braid piping, a historical branch indicator used by the United States Navy to denote personnel within the Engineering branch, such as a Fireman. The square-back sailor collar is made from dark blue wool flannel and is decorated with three rows of white cotton tape and a white embroidered five-pointed star in each corner. The cuffs are matching dark blue wool with two white stripes and a single black four-hole button closure. The interior hem of the jumper bears a handwritten name in black ink, which appears to read LANDRESS STANTON or similar.
