Description
This US military communication device is a model RT-196/PRC-6 radio receiver-transmitter, a portable FM walkie-talkie commonly known as the Banana Radio. Manufactured by the Raytheon Manufacturing Company, the unit is constructed with a curved, olive drab green painted cast-magnesium housing. The exterior design incorporates integrated speaker and microphone grilles, a side-mounted push-to-talk button, and top-mounted controls including a covered antenna port. A metal data plate identifies the unit as a Radio Receiver-Transmitter RT-196 / PRC-6, with serial number 33363. The characters C 3 4 are hand-painted in white on the upper casing. The interior includes a battery compartment designed for a BA-270/U battery, featuring a brown plate with a printed schematic for battery terminal connections and voltage labels of 1.5V, 4.5V, 45V, and 90V. A yellow modification chart is affixed inside the lid with handwritten entries including dates from 1953. An internal component features a small oval Raytheon manufacturer logo.
