Description
This is a U.S. military M-1952A fragmentation protective body armor vest, commonly known as a flak vest, produced during the mid-1950s. The garment is constructed of an olive drab nylon shell. Design features include two large lower front cargo pockets with snap-flap closures and two webbed loops positioned above the pockets for hanging grenades. The vest utilizes a full-length front zipper closure protected by a vertical flap with snap-button fasteners. The sides are equipped with an adjustable lacing system featuring metal eyelets and green cord to allow for fitting over various layers of clothing. The interior neck area contains three original sewn-on white cloth labels. The first label designates the size as X LARGE and lists stock number 8415-261-663. The second label provides the nomenclature as ARMOR, BODY, FRAGMENTATION, PROTECTIVE, UPPER TORSO, M-1952A, identifying the manufacturer as L. W. Foster Sportswear Co., Inc. with a contract date of 23 MAY 1955, pattern date of 1 FEB. 1955, and specification MIL-A-12370B from the Philadelphia Q.M. Depot. The third label is a large instruction panel titled THIS ARMOR MAY SAVE YOUR LIFE!.
