Description
This lot contains two United States military campaign hats representing different branches and eras. The first item is a U.S. Army M1911 campaign hat from the World War I era. It is constructed from khaki wool felt with a four-crease Montana peak crown and a brim featuring five rows of stitching. The interior felt displays stenciled black ink markings for 158 INF and 40th DIV. The interior crown is hand-inscribed Camp. Kearney CALIF. This unit history identifies the hat with the 158th Infantry Regiment of the 40th Division, which trained at Camp Kearny in California prior to deployment in 1918. The hat includes a brown grosgrain ribbon band with a side bow and an internal leather sweatband with a paper size tag for 7. The second item is a United States Marine Corps campaign hat of the type used by Drill Instructors and for service wear, dating to the mid-to-late 20th century. It is made of olive drab wool felt and features a blackened brass screw-back Eagle, Globe, and Anchor insignia. The hat is equipped with a black leather chin strap with a silver-tone buckle, a brown grosgrain ribbon band, and metal ventilation eyelets. An interior paper label lists the size as 7 1/4 B and includes codes 84229, A40 :EVEN, and 3/4 F. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
