Description
A set of United States military cavalry equipment comprising a pair of Model 1904 leather saddlebags and a matching woven animal hair cinch. The saddlebags are constructed of heavy russet bridle leather with brass hardware and feature the three-strap configuration. The bags are joined by a wide leather bridge. The cinch is made of woven dark brown animal hair, likely mohair or horsehair, with circular leather pads at each end. The left flap of the saddlebag displays an embossed oval mark containing the letters US. One leather pad on the cinch is stamped with the characters L.G.D. and the numeral 2. A brass fitting on the saddlebag bridge is stamped with the numbers 7 and 14, likely indicating a manufacture or inspection date of July 1914.
