Description
A World War II United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) Type B-6 flight helmet. This aviator headgear is constructed from dark brown leather panels with a full cream-colored shearling lining. The exterior includes multiple leather straps with metal snaps intended for goggles or an oxygen mask, along with a matching leather chin strap featuring a metal buckle. The crown is marked with a yellow stenciled USAAF winged star insignia and the text ARMY AIR FORCES. An original black woven contractor label is stitched to the interior, stating TYPE B-6, DRAWING NO. 42G6473, AAF ORDER NO. 42-17988-, PROPERTY, AIR FORCES U.S. ARMY, and size MEDIUM. The interior shearling features several faint ink markings and circular outlines, possibly indicating the intended placement of communications equipment or ear cups. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos. But, we are not able to guarantee authenticity or era of items in the sale.
