Description
A United States military M1 steel helmet set dating to the Vietnam War era. The set consists of a steel shell, a plastic liner, and a reversible fabric camouflage cover. The Mitchell pattern cover is displayed with the green leaf side out and is secured to the shell with a period-correct black rubber helmet band cut from a vehicle inner tube. The cover features extensive hand-drawn trench art in black ink, including an Ace of Spades playing card on both the left and right sides. The rear of the cover bears a hand-written warning: IF YOU CAN READ THIS, YOURE TOO CLOSE!
The steel shell is a standard swivel-bale model equipped with olive drab canvas chinstraps. The removable plastic liner contains an adjustable olive drab webbing suspension system and a leather sweatband. The interior surface of the liner is marked with a hand-written name and service number in black ink: R. MASON 2389682. The leather nape strap is present but damaged. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos. But, we are not able to guarantee authenticity or era of items in the sale. Please carefully look at all photos (up to 100 in some cases on our in-house platform) to judge for yourself what you are buying. All sales are final. Our in-house shipping is available. Pickup is Wednesday, July 15, from Noon to 5 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
