Description
A collection of four US Army field gear items consisting of entrenching tools and their corresponding canvas carriers from the World War I and World War II eras. The group includes two US M1910 T-handle shovels, one US M1943 folding entrenching tool, and one US M1910 pick mattock. The M1910 shovels feature fixed steel blades and wooden shafts with reinforced T-style handles, both finished in olive drab paint. One is paired with a WWI khaki canvas carrier stamped U.S. on the front and P.B. & CO 1917 on the reverse with a leather-lined closure strap and wire belt hanger. The second M1910 shovel is paired with a later WWII-era OD #7 green canvas carrier. The M1943 folding shovel features a multi-position steel head with a threaded locking collar and is paired with an OD #7 green canvas carrier stamped U.S. on the front and MAY 1944 in black ink on the interior flap. The M1910 pick mattock consists of a two-part steel head and a detachable wooden handle, both in olive drab finish, accompanied by a khaki canvas carrier with a buckle closure and wire belt hanger. The interior of the pick mattock carrier is stamped BEAKER B-18.
