Description
A substantial collection of United States military challenge coins, commemorative medals, and associated ephemera, primarily representing the U.S. Army. The group includes coins from various commands, units, and educational institutions, with a significant emphasis on the 88th Regional Support Command (RSC), the 83rd Infantry Division, and the Ohio State University (OSU) Army ROTC Buckeye Battalion. Other units represented include the 82nd Airborne Division, 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army War College, TRADOC, U.S. Army JAG Corps, and U.S. Army Chaplain Corps. One U.S. Marine Corps 2013 Toys for Tots Foundation commemorative coin is present.
Key items in the collection include a National Museum of the United States Army Founding Sponsor Medallion in its original blue velvet display box and an official Award Certificate of Appreciation signed by Major General Norman W. Martell, who served as the Commanding General of the 88th RSC. Specialized pieces include a pentagon-shaped coin depicting the Pentagon building in Washington D.C., several two-star General and Assistant Division Commander command coins, and an Army vs. Ohio State 2017 football game commemorative coin.
The items are constructed from various base metals with gold, silver, and bronze-toned finishes. Many pieces feature detailed cloisonne enamel work in multiple colors. Several coins remain in their original retail packaging from the Military Service Co., labeled with Army Values or as base custom coins. Notable inscriptions include unit mottos and identifiers such as Fulge, Veritas Caput, Thunderbolt Division, and All American. Visible dates throughout the collection range from 1986 to 2017. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos. But, we are not able to guarantee authenticity or era of items in the sale. Please carefully look at all photos (up to 100 in some cases on our in-house platform) to judge for yourself what you are buying. All sales are final. Our in-house shipping is available. Pickup is Wednesday, July 15, from Noon to 5 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
