Description
A World War I-era US military Model 1904 McClellan cavalry saddle and associated tack ensemble. The saddle is constructed of dark brown leather in the characteristic open-seat pattern. A brass pommel shield is stamped with the text 11 1/2 INCH SEAT. The lot includes a pair of hooded stirrups, also known as tapaderos, with leather covers embossed with a US monogram within an oval. One wooden stirrup core is clearly stamped with the markings H, 1916, and R.I.A., identifying manufacture at the Rock Island Arsenal in 1916. The ensemble features various leather attachment straps and cinches fitted with brass and steel hardware, including several tie-down rings and buckles.
