Description
This lot features two distinct items of US military field communications equipment: a portable radio receiver-transmitter and an external loudspeaker.
The first item is a US Army Radio Receiver-Transmitter, model RT-196A/PRC-6, serial number 372. This squad-level portable radio, widely utilized during the Korean War and early Vietnam War era, is housed in a cast aluminum casing with an olive drab finish. The housing secures via two heavy-duty side latches. The external identification plate is marked: U.S. RADIO RECEIVER-TRANSMITTER RT-196A/PRC-6 SERIAL NO. 372. An internal metal tag is marked: RT-196A/PRC-6, 4361-P-53#, 372, indicating a contract year of 1953. The inside battery compartment cover features printed instructions for the interim shock absorber, specifies battery type BA-270/U, and displays a battery socket circuit diagram. The inside of the top lid contains a black and yellow channel-frequency chart for channels 1 through 36, covering 47.0 to 55.4 MHz.
The second item is a ruggedized external Loudspeaker, model LS-454/U, manufactured by Accusonic Systems. The side of the olive drab metal housing features white stenciled markings reading: LOUDSPEAKER LS-454/U, ACCUSONIC SYSTEMS, 8X583, 5965-00-876-2375, U.S., DLA900-86-C-1062. The DLA contract number indicates a 1986 manufacture date. The unit includes a coiled audio cable ending in a standard multi-pin connector, currently secured with olive drab utility paracord. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos. But, we are not able to guarantee authenticity or era of items in the sale.
