Description

This is a United States Marine Corps (USMC) M-1940 pattern sun helmet manufactured during World War II. The helmet is constructed of pressed fiber covered in a khaki cotton twill fabric. The front features a blackened metal USMC Eagle, Globe, and Anchor (EGA) insignia. The wide brim has a dark green fabric underside. The interior is lined with green fabric and contains an adjustable brown leatherette sweatband with metal eyelets and a brown cord drawstring. It includes a tan webbing chin strap. Metal ventilation grommets are located around the crown. A black stamped contract mark on the interior green lining reads: HAWLEY PRODUCTS CO. CONTR. NO. NOM 44275 CONTR. Date APR. 21, 1944.
