Description
A United States Marine Corps (USMC) M-1912 campaign hat, also known as a Montana Peak hat, dating from the World War I to the Interwar period. The hat is constructed from olive drab wool felt and features the characteristic four-creased crown adopted in 1912. Affixed to the front is a bronze-finished, screw-back Eagle, Globe, and Anchor (EGA) emblem. The emblem depicts a globe with visible longitude and latitude lines and a fouled anchor. The exterior is trimmed with a brown grosgrain ribbon band and a thin reddish-brown leather chin strap secured by a small metal buckle. Four metal ventilation eyelets are present, two on each side of the crown. The interior features a brown leather sweatband with two gold-embossed stamps. The first is a diamond-shaped border containing the text JOHN B. STETSON CO. TRADE MARK EXTRA QUALITY. The second features a crown symbol above the text THE HENDERSON-AMES CO. KALAMAZOO, MICH. The John B. Stetson Company was the manufacturer, while the Henderson-Ames Company was a prominent military regalia retailer.
