Description
This lot comprises a collection of mid-20th-century military equipment and inert ordnance of United States and post-WWII West German origin. The headgear is a West German Bundeswehr field cap in Flecktarn (spotted) camouflage, featuring a machine-sewn circular cockade on the front displaying the national colors of the Federal Republic of Germany: black, red, and gold. The cap is constructed of heavyweight cotton-blend fabric with a reinforced brim and a drab green interior lining. The ordnance section includes three deactivated, hollowed-out hand grenades: two US Mk 2 fragmentation grenades and one US M26 fragmentation grenade. One Mk 2 and the M26 are finished in olive drab paint; the second Mk 2 body shows heavy surface oxidation and is missing its fuse assembly. The ammunition consists of one US 20mm casing with a practice projectile, headstamped B.R. LOT 69 20MM M21A1 1944, and two .50 caliber BMG cartridges. Both .50 caliber rounds are headstamped 42, one from Remington Arms (R A) and the other from the St. Louis Ordnance Plant (S L). One of the .50 caliber casings features decorative floral scrollwork engraved into the brass in a trench art style. Field gear includes a pair of US M1938-style canvas leggings with lace hooks and eyelets, one of which is stamped with a 1951 date. Also included is a tan leather lace-up accessory marked MRT for Mildew Resistant Treatment and a metal T-handle maintenance tool. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos. But, we are not able to guarantee authenticity or era of items in the sale.
