July Military Auction
Lot 26653:
Description
This is a United States Army M-1943 field overcoat, officially designated as the Overcoat, Field, Cotton, OD. The garment is constructed from a heavy cotton poplin shell in Olive Drab Shade 3, which presents as a khaki-tan color. It features a double-breasted front closure with two rows of brown plastic four-hole buttons, large notched lapels, and two hip pockets with flap closures. The sleeves include adjustable button-tab cuffs for fit. The interior is partially lined with a removable dark olive drab wool pile for thermal insulation. This pattern was designed during World War II to be worn over the standard field jacket in cold weather environments. At the interior neck, a small tan fabric tag denotes a size 38. Below the hanging loop, hand-written ink markings include the size 38 and a mark reading B4 with a horizontal strike-through. A rectangular patch of adhesive residue and paper fragments indicates where the original manufacturer specification label was formerly attached.
