Description
This is an original United States War Department technical manual, TM 9-1608, titled Ordnance Maintenance — Periscopes, Telescopes for Periscopes, and Direct Sighting Telescopes for Use in Tanks. The manual is dated December 30, 1942, and was prepared under the direction of the Chief of Ordnance. It contains comprehensive maintenance instructions for tank optical equipment, including the M5 periscope and the M5 and M5A1 direct sighting telescopes. The manual consists of 179 numbered pages divided into twelve sections covering inspection, repair, disassembly, assembly, and special instructions for cleaning materials in desert conditions. The text is supported by numerous technical diagrams, assembly views, and cross-sections, such as figure 22 showing a section view of the Periscope M5 and figure 36 showing the Telescope M5. Notable markings on the front cover include the printed text Advance Copy for Use in Ordnance Office Only and a red ink rectangular stamp stating Artillery-Technical File Copy Do Not Remove. The rear cover has a handwritten pencil inscription that appears to read Marshall Artillery / room. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos.
