July Military Auction
Lot 26600:
Description
This original softbound technical manual, TM 1-219, titled Basic Photography, was published by the War Department on July 1, 1941. Prepared under the direction of the Chief of the Air Corps, this document served as a foundational instructional guide for military photographers just prior to the entry of the United States into World War II. The manual features tan cardstock covers with black printed text on the front and spine. The table of contents lists comprehensive chapters covering elementary photography, chemistry, sensitized materials, optics, filters, sensitometry, and ground camera photography. The interior contains instructional text alongside various photographic plates and diagrams, including Figure 59 illustrating highlight, halftone, and shadow, and Figure 60 demonstrating varying exposure levels. The title page notes that this manual supersedes the earlier TM 2170-5 dated March 1, 1930. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos.
