Description
A group of five framed military-themed works comprising various media and processes. The primary work is an oil on canvas portrait of a United States Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel, signed J. Loy and dated 1944 in the lower right, presented in an ornate gilt wood frame. The collection includes a panoramic photo-offset lithograph titled Airborne / Camp Mackall North Carolina, bearing a 1944 copyright by W. R. Thompson and Co., Richmond, Va. This panoramic print attributes the photography to the U. S. Army Signal Corps and features a Photo WTR Finish stamp at the lower right, with a period newspaper clipping regarding paratrooper procedures adhered to the upper left. Also present is a large black and white silver gelatin print depicting Vietnam-era soldiers in a defensive trench position and a contemporary color C-print of a Lockheed P-38 Lightning warbird with Putt Putt Maru nose art. The final piece is a color reproduction print of the iconic Iwo Jima flag raising. The frames vary in style from contemporary silver-toned metal and simple black-painted wood to a large decorative gilt frame for the oil portrait.
