Description
This lot features two vintage World War II-era United States military officer’s service dress uniform coats, accompanied by a modern reproduction officer’s shirt and matching trousers.
The first coat (right) is a World War II US Army Air Forces officer’s service dress uniform coat constructed of dark olive drab elastique wool. It features a four-button single-breasted front with a matching fabric waist belt and brass buckle, a pleated bi-swing back, and brass buttons displaying the US Great Seal. The left shoulder is adorned with a custom bullion-embroidered 14th Air Force Flying Tigers patch on blue felt, showcasing a winged tiger, the Chinese Nationalist sun emblem, and the Big Dipper constellation. The right shoulder features an embroidered USAAF winged star patch on blue wool. The shoulder epaulets bear sewn-on Captain’s rank insignia in white and silver thread. The left sleeve cuff is decorated with six gold bullion overseas service bars, representing three years of overseas service. The interior lining contains a woven brown label reading UNIFORMS OF DISTINCTION / Lauterstein’s / SAN ANTONIO.
The second coat (left) is a World War II US Army officer’s service dress uniform coat of olive drab wool elastique construction, featuring a four-button single-breasted closure with brass US Great Seal buttons and green officer’s braid on the cuffs. The interior pocket lining is fitted with two labels: a woven brown label reading KAHN TAILORING CO / OF INDIANAPOLIS surrounding a circular seal with the text Gentleman’s Service Uniform / REG. U.S. PAT. OFF., and an adjacent black square label with a white monogrammatic I and T symbol within a light blue circle.
This second coat is presented with a modern high-quality reproduction officer’s shirt and matching trousers. The shirt retains a label reading Quality Reproduction By: / WWII impressions / of / Downey, California / (562) 622-8260 and a size tag marked 16 1/2-36. The accompanying reproduction trousers match the shirt’s elastique weave and coloration. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos. But, we are not able to guarantee authenticity or era of items in the sale. Please carefully look at all photos (up to 100 in some cases on our in-house platform) to judge for yourself what you are buying. All sales are final. Our in-house shipping is available. Pickup is Wednesday, July 15, from Noon to 5 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
