Description
A pair of World War II-era U.S. military pneumatic life vests, popularly known as Mae Wests. The lot includes one USAAF Type B-4 vest and one U.S. Navy variant. The USAAF vest is constructed from yellow rubberized fabric designed for high visibility and features an oral inflation tube with a knurled metal valve. It is equipped with a full set of adjustment straps and metal buckles. The front lower panel bears clear black ink stamps identifying it as VEST – PNEUMATIC, LIFE – TYPE B-4, AN6519-1, STOCK NO. 8300 – 978200, DATE OF MFR. AUG 13 1945, ORDER NO. (33-038) 45-2863 AF, manufactured by THE SEAMLESS (SR) RUBBER COMPANY and marked PROPERTY U. S. GOVERNMENT. The second vest is a U.S. Navy variant constructed of dark blue/grey neoprene rubberized fabric. It includes an integrated harness system with metal snap hooks and D-ring hardware. Faint stenciling on the back panel reads U.S. NAVY, CONTRACT NO., UNITED STATES, NEOPRENE, and PROPERTY – U.S.
