Description
This grouping consists of a collection of United States Army military insignia and patches dating to the Vietnam War era. The lot contains an assortment of standard United States military issue machine-embroidered patches and theater-made pieces produced in-country in South Vietnam. Represented units and divisions include the 9th Infantry Division, Special Forces, the 1st Aviation Brigade, United States Army Vietnam (USARV), and the 9th Long Range Patrol (LRRP).
Included items consist of an olive drab cotton name tape embroidered with the name RYAN, a 9th Long Range Patrol Div unit scroll, and a separate LRRP specialty tab. The shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI) include a 9th Infantry Division octofoil circular patch, a Special Forces spearhead patch, a 1st Aviation Brigade circular aircraft patch, and two US Army Vietnam (USARV) shield patches featuring a yellow sun and star over red and white stripes. Qualification and specialty insignia comprise a theater-made ARVN (Army of the Republic of Vietnam) parachutist wing patch, a master parachutist wing embroidered on a red and gold airborne background trimming oval, and a theater-made wing patch with a red central disc and SF. lettering. The lot is completed by a gold-toned metal and enamel Special Forces Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) lapel pin. The theater-made pieces display the characteristic hand-guided embroidery and irregular reverse-side construction associated with local South Vietnamese production.
