Description
This lot consists of a black wool beret and an assortment of theater-made insignia associated with the U.S. Marine Corps Combined Action Program (CAP) during the Vietnam War. The beret is constructed of black wool with a hand-stitched black leatherette sweatband and internal lining. Affixed to the front is a theater-made shield-shaped patch for the Combined Action Program featuring crossed U.S. and South Vietnamese flags behind a golden eagle, topped with a metal U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant rank insignia. The interior of the beret contains a plastic-protected label with a red stamp reading T/C BUU-DIEN / TRAI DOC-LAP / SAIGON-TEL. 21.053, along with blue ink handwritten Vietnamese inscriptions including the words Ky niem. The lot includes an assortment of eight additional loose patches. Five are theater-made shield-shaped patches in varying base colors of blue and green, featuring the crossed flags and eagle design with the text COMBINED ACTION PROGRAM or COMBINED ACTION COMPANY and the Vietnamese translation LUC LUONG HON HOP. A large olive drab trapezoidal USMC breast patch is included, featuring a black embroidered Eagle, Globe, and Anchor above the text USMC. Also present is a circular morale-style patch featuring a cartoon mouse character descending via parachute with the text PARACHUTE INFANTRY on a yellow border. Reverse sides of the patches show varying construction styles including plain fabric and reinforced backing.
CAP shield patches: Approximately 3 to 3.5 inches in width.
USMC breast patch: Approximately 5 inches in width at the base.
Parachute Infantry patch: Approximately 3.5 inches in diameter. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
