Description
Civil War Prisoner of War Association of Iowa certificate for Walter S. Johnson, 2nd Lieutenant Co.I 36th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. The certificate measures 16″ x 13.75″ and is housed in a period 18″ x 20.25″ frame. Johnson, of Centerville, Appanoose County, Iowa, was captured at Mark’s Mills, Arkansas on April, 25, 1864. Lieutenant Johnson was imprisoned at Camp Ford in Tyler, Texas from April 1864 to February 1865. He was exchanged on February 25, 1865 at the “Mouth of Red River La.” (Louisiana). The 36th Iowa was decimated at Mark’s Mills suffering casualties of 32 killed, 116 wounded, and 451 captured. Pick up is Sunday, March 29 from 10 am to 4 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
