Description
This is an original World War I-era lithographic humanitarian relief poster titled Lest We Perish. The poster was produced for the American Committee for Relief in the Near East, an organization that later became Near East Relief, as part of a campaign to raise 30,000,000 dollars for aid to Armenia, Greece, Syria, and Persia. The central artwork, created by American illustrator Ethel Franklin Betts-Bains, depicts a young girl with outstretched hands in a poignant appeal for charity. The poster features large orange block lettering for the title and black serif and sans-serif fonts for the remaining text. The signature E. F. Betts-Bains is printed in the plate at the lower center-left. The official logo for the Committee on Public Information Division of Pictorial Publicity is located in the lower right of the illustration field. At the bottom right, the poster lists Cleveland H. Dodge as Treasurer and the organization’s address at One Madison Ave., New York. The poster is presented in a black wooden frame under glass with a wire hanger on the reverse.

Condition report:
The poster is in good historical condition with age-appropriate toning throughout the paper. Visible moisture staining and minor foxing are present along the lower right corner and bottom margin. The central image and text remain bold and clear. The modern frame shows minor surface scuffs and wear.
