Description
An extensive collection of vintage and modern United States license plates and automotive promotional signage. The collection primarily features examples from Ohio and Kansas, with additional representation from Pennsylvania, Texas, New York, New Hampshire, and Michigan.
Plate types include standard passenger, truck, motorcycle, antique, and specialty registrations. Notable specialty items include two Kansas Vietnam Veteran motorcycle plates (257A and 273A) with the Vietnam Service Medal graphic, a Kansas Firefighter plate (29555), and an Ohio Dealer plate (016 2489). Older registrations include a 1957 Pennsylvania plate (3454), 1959 and 1960 Pennsylvania temporary 30-day plates, and a heavily oxidized 1968 Ohio plate marked WHT.
The promotional and vanity assortment features a large Southland Auto Sales sign with a graphic of a vintage luxury car, an Eat Pork promotional plate from the Kansas Livestock Association, a Chevrolet USA-1 See America’s First! novelty plate, and a Detroit Tigers vanity plate featuring the team logo. Commercial signage includes signs for Tackett’s Fence Co. and K&K Oil Co.
Registration stickers across the collection are dated from 1957 through 2023. Materials consist primarily of embossed and printed metal. Pickup is Friday, July 31, from Noon to 7 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item. Condition report:
The condition across the collection is varied. Older vintage plates from the 1950s and 1960s exhibit significant oxidation, heavy rust, pitting, and surface loss. Modern plates are generally in good to very good condition with typical mounting wear, minor scratches, and residual adhesive from registration stickers. Signs and promotional plates show moderate wear including surface scuffs, creased metal, and corner bends.
