Description
A set of five Federal style dining chairs consisting of one armchair and four side chairs. These 20th-century reproductions are crafted in the Hepplewhite taste, featuring characteristic shield-shaped backs with pierced splats. The splats are decorated with carved fluting, beading, and a central wheat-sheaf motif, further accented with inlaid light wood stringing along the frames and splats. The chairs are constructed of mahogany or a similar hardwood with a mahogany finish. Each chair features tapered and fluted front legs with ring turnings and square tapered back legs, all joined by an H-stretcher for stability. The drop-in seats are upholstered in a traditional burgundy and tan striped fabric. Underside construction reveals 20th-century assembly techniques, including the use of plywood seat supports and triangular corner blocks secured with flat-head screws. No maker marks or labels are present, though one corner block shows evidence of a removed tag. Pickup is Friday, July 31, from Noon to 7 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item. Condition report:
Overall good condition with wear consistent with age and use. One side chair has a visible, stable repair or crack on the upper rail of the shield back. The wood finish shows minor nicks, scuffs, and small chips, particularly concentrated on the edges of the backrests and the lower portions of the legs. The striped upholstery is intact with light typical wear and no significant staining visible.
