Description
This extensive collection of depression era tableware is rendered in the American Sweetheart pattern, attributed to the MacBeth Evans Glass Company and produced between 1930 and 1936. The items are manufactured in Monax, an opalescent translucent white glass known for its delicate thinness and subtle blue hue at the scalloped edges. The design features an intricate embossed motif consisting of floral scrolls, urns, and a central sunburst medallion. The group consists of dinner plates, luncheon plates, bread and butter plates, soup bowls, berry bowls, teacups, bouillon bowls, an oval serving bowl, a large round serving bowl, and a creamer and sugar set. No maker marks are present on the pieces, which is characteristic for this pattern and manufacturer.
Dinner Plates: 9.25 inches diameter
Luncheon Plates: 8.25 inches diameter
Bread and Butter Plates: 6 inches diameter
Soup Bowls: 9.5 inches diameter
Berry Bowls: 6 inches diameter
Oval Serving Bowl: 10.5 inches length
Large Round Serving Bowl: 9.5 inches diameter. Pickup is Friday, July 31, from Noon to 7 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item. Condition report:
The collection is in very good to excellent vintage condition with the glass retaining its bright opalescent luster. Consistent with the age and delicate nature of Monax glass, minor surface scratches from use and occasional small flea bite nicks along the scalloped rim edges are present. No significant cracks, large chips, or repairs were identified.
