Description

This is a vintage Model No. 40 Traffic-Gard lantern produced by the Embury Manufacturing Company of Warsaw, New York. The lantern features a steel body with a red painted finish and a red glass globe. The globe is designed with a fresnel-style lens pattern to enhance visibility for its intended use as a road hazard marker. Under UV light inspection, the red glass globe exhibits a bright yellow-orange fluorescence, a characteristic often associated with vintage red glass containing cadmium. The top of the chimney is embossed with the following marks: EMBURY MANUFACTURING CO, WARSAW, NEW YORK U.S.A, NO. 40, and TRAFFIC GARD. The unit retains its wire bail handle, globe guard, and internal burner assembly with a wick.
