Description
This is a Marantz Model 2252B stereophonic receiver, a classic solid-state audio component manufactured in Japan and designed in the United States. The unit features a brushed aluminum faceplate with a slide-rule analog tuning dial and a weighted Gyro-Touch tuning wheel. It includes dual analog meters for signal strength and FM tuning. The control layout consists of a source selector for AM, FM, Phono 1, Phono 2, and Aux, along with volume, balance, and triple tone controls for bass, mid, and treble. Push-button switches are present for tape copy, tape monitor, FM muting, mono, high filter, loudness, and two speaker systems. The front panel also provides two 1/4 inch dubbing jacks and a 1/4 inch headphone jack. The rear panel contains RCA inputs for multiple sources, a Dolby FM decoder receptacle, two unswitched AC outlets, and spring-clip terminals for two sets of speakers. The internal chassis features a large power transformer and transistor-based circuitry on multiple printed circuit boards. The rear identification plate lists the serial number as U020336. Condition report:
The receiver is in fair to poor cosmetic condition and is being sold as is for parts or restoration. The aluminum faceplate shows significant wear, including scratches, pitting, and finish loss, particularly at the corners; the top left corner mounting point appears damaged. The black textured top cover is currently detached and exhibits prominent soot and burn marks on the interior underside, suggesting a past internal heat or electrical failure above the transformer and heatsink area. Internal components show an accumulation of dust and surface oxidation on metal parts. A handwritten note states the unit powers on, and visual evidence confirms the dial and indicator lamps illuminate. However, the unit has not been tested for audio output or full functional performance.
