Description
A Commodore Model No. 840 tabletop FM/AM tube radio manufactured in Japan. The unit features a wooden cabinet with a dark brown wood-grain laminate finish and a contrasting greenish-tinted wood-grain faceplate. It is marketed as having Stereo-Matic-Sound with a 4 Speaker system, indicated by two circular front-facing apertures with woven mesh grilles. The control panel includes an analog slide-rule dial with separate scales for AM and FM frequencies. Four control knobs are present for Volume (with integrated Off switch), Tone, Selector (AM, FM, and FM-AFC), and Tuning. The rear fiberboard panel provides access to a phono jack and 300-ohm FM antenna terminals. A printed diagram on the back specifies an eight-tube circuit plus three diodes, utilizing tube types 17EW8, 12BE6, 12BA6 (x2), 12AV6 (x2), and 35C5 (x2). The unit is marked as operating on 105-120 Volts DC or 50-60 Cycles AC, with a power consumption of 35 Watts at 117 Volts.

Condition report:
The cabinet shows signs of moderate age-related wear, including a notable chip and crack in the laminate on the top left edge. Minor scuffs, scratches, and edge wear are visible across the housing. The front faceplate, dial, and speaker grilles appear well-preserved. The original power cord is present but shows signs of surface grime. The unit is untested and is sold in as-is condition for parts, restoration, or decorative purposes.
