Description
This is an official United States Navy issued double-breasted pea coat manufactured for the Naval Clothing Depot. The garment is constructed from heavy 100% navy blue wool and features a black interior lining. The left sleeve displays a sewn rating badge for a Petty Officer Third Class, featuring an embroidered perched eagle above a gear specialty mark, indicating the Machinist’s Mate (MM) rating, with a single red chevron below. The coat is secured by black composition buttons embossed with the standard USN fouled anchor design. An original manufacturer label is sewn into the interior pocket, identifying the garment as produced under contract number N140-62236S-40280B. The N140 prefix indicates a contract issued by the Bureau of Supplies and Accounts between the late 1940s and early 1950s. A secondary care instruction label is located below the interior collar.
