Description
This lot features a trio of United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) B-4 pattern flight clothing bags from the World War II era. These garment bags are constructed from heavy-duty olive drab cotton duck canvas, a standard material for military field gear of the period. Each bag is designed with a large central garment compartment and multiple exterior zippered accessory pockets. The bags are equipped with leather-wrapped carry handles reinforced by leather patches and metal rivets.
The bags feature several distinct historical markings and stencils. Two bags bear the white stenciled USAAF winged-star logo and the text ARMY AIR FORCES. One bag exhibits evidence of multiple owners; it is stenciled with the name ADRIAN R. PATTEN and service number 12133001, as well as D. W. O’CONNOR with service number 310684687. The leather handle patch on this specific bag is also stamped DAVE O’CONNOR with the corresponding service number. Another bag in the group shows a black stenciled bar used to redact a previous owner’s identification. The bags utilize metal zippers and steel rivets typical of wartime production. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos. But, we are not able to guarantee authenticity or era of items in the sale. Please carefully look at all photos (up to 100 in some cases on our in-house platform) to judge for yourself what you are buying. All sales are final. Our in-house shipping is available. Pickup is Wednesday, July 15, from Noon to 5 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
