Description
This is a collection of five pieces of United States Army medical field equipment and instructional material spanning from 1943 through the Vietnam era. The collection includes a Basic Field Manual FM 21-11 titled First Aid for Soldiers dated April 7, 1943, published by the United States Government Printing Office. This softbound manual contains instructional diagrams for first aid procedures such as artificial respiration and eye foreign body removal. Also included is a Large Battle Dressing, Carlisle Model, dated June 30, 1943, manufactured by Handy Pad Supply Co. and distributed by Conray Products Co. The item is in its original sterilized, camouflaged state and is currently preserved in a modern plastic wrap. The olive drab canvas pouch is a jungle-pattern individual first aid kit case featuring metal snap closures and internal dividers. It is stamped with the Federal Supply Classification code 6545 823 8165 on the exterior flap and a faint Medical Department caduceus. The interior flap is stamped Case, First Aid with the contract number 120-67-C-1078, indicating a 1967 production date. The assortment also features a paper-wrapped splint strap with buckle manufactured by A. Reif and Co., dated November 1954. Finally, there is a nonpneumatic camouflage tourniquet in original clear plastic packaging produced by the Pittsburgh Blind Association, marked with National Stock Number 6515-00-383-0565.
