July Military Auction
Lot 25973:
Description
This lot consists of an antique wooden rope-tension parade drum, currently in a disassembled state. The drum features a wooden shell with a natural finish, complemented by two wooden counter-hoops finished in red paint. A distinctive eight-pointed star or compass rose motif is hand-painted in blue, white, and red around the brass-grommeted air vent. The components included in the lot are the shell, two red hoops, two vellum drum heads, a length of natural fiber rope, several leather tensioning slides (ears), and metal hooks. The interior of the shell reveals the wood grain and contains faint, illegible pencil markings. The construction style and materials are characteristic of American drums from the mid-to-late 19th century.
