Description

A collection of mid-20th-century hand-painted wooden wall plaques and emblems representing various units of the United States Marine Corps (USMC). These items are theater-made folk art souvenirs, likely dating to the World War II era or immediate post-war period. The collection consists of a disassembled large Eagle, Globe, and Anchor (EGA) emblem and multiple shield-shaped plaques.

The EGA emblem is constructed in four separate carved wooden pieces. It includes a large eagle with spread wings and a white-painted head, a central circular globe painted light blue with the Americas depicted in raised gold relief, a lower fouled anchor with carved rope detail, and a separate top anchor fluke section.

The shield-shaped plaques are uniform in design, featuring a red painted field with yellow borders. Each shield bears the hand-painted vertical text FMF-PAC, representing the Fleet Marine Force, Pacific. An eagle head profile is positioned on the left side of each shield, accented by four five-pointed stars. Each shield features a raised central circular disc displaying a specific unit or branch insignia:
1. Landing Vehicle, Tracked (LVT/Amtracs) profile.
2. War Dog/K9 unit featuring a dog head profile.
3. Marine Raider/Recon insignia featuring a hand clutching a combat dagger.
4. Armor unit featuring an M4 Sherman-style tank profile.
5. General or Command insignia with a large five-pointed star within a circle.
6. Signal/Communications insignia with a central pole and four lightning bolts.
7. Combat Engineers insignia featuring a three-towered castle.
8. Ordnance insignia featuring a vertical aerial bomb.
9. Artillery insignia featuring a profile of a field cannon.
