Description
A group of books focused on the military history of the United States Marine Corps, with a primary emphasis on World War II and the Korean War. The collection includes various formats, mostly octavo hardcovers, including a two-volume slipcased set and several cloth-bound editions. Notable titles include The Coldest Winter by David Halberstam (Hyperion), a slipcased set containing With the Old Breed by E.B. Sledge and Helmet for My Pillow by Robert Leckie, Strong Men Armed by Robert Leckie (Random House), and History of Marine Corps Aviation in World War II by Robert Sherrod. Other works present are Grunts by John C. McManus (Dutton), Pork Chop Hill by S.L.A. Marshall, and specialized titles such as Mustang by Gerald P. Averill and Retreat, Hell! by Jim Wilson. The books are bound in publishers cloth or pictorial boards, many retaining their original dust jackets. One cloth-bound volume features a gilt Marine Corps emblem on the front board, and another carries the title The United States Marines Against Japan. Contents include maps, photographs, and illustrations documenting combat experiences and unit histories. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos. But, we are not able to guarantee authenticity or era of items in the sale. Please carefully look at all photos (up to 100 in some cases on our in-house platform) to judge for yourself what you are buying. All sales are final. Our in-house shipping is available. Pickup is Wednesday, July 15, from Noon to 5 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
