Description
A pair of vintage wooden snowshoes manufactured by The Groswold Ski Co. Inc. of Denver, Colorado. These snowshoes are designed in the bear paw style, featuring wide, rounded bent wood frames with traditional rawhide webbing. The leather harnesses are attached to the frame with metal hinges and leather lacing. The wooden crossbars on each snowshoe are stamped with the size 14 x 33 and the manufacturer mark reading THE GROSWOLD SKI CO. INC. DENVER COLO. Numerical stamps 0387 and 03940 are visible on the wooden crossbars. One snowshoe displays a section of red paint on the upper crossbar. Groswold was a notable contractor for mountain equipment used by the U.S. military during the World War II era.
