Description
A 20th-century Indian Army Gorkha Regiment kukri and matching scabbard dating to the post-1947 Republic of India period. The hand-forged carbon steel blade features a traditional recurved, leaf-shaped profile with a single cutting edge and a kaudi notch near the bolster. The blade face is decorated with punched-dot motifs, including a stylized avian figure near the hilt and a floral spray toward the tip. The hilt is composed of a dark, polished material, likely buffalo horn or dyed wood, featuring a central grip ridge and inlaid white-metal dots. The hilt is finished with a white-metal bolster and a pommel cap embossed with a stylized lion head motif. The wooden scabbard is covered in black leather and features an integrated belt loop. Affixed to the throat of the scabbard is a white-metal insignia depicting the Ashoka Lion Capital of the State Emblem of India above a pair of crossed kukris, identifying the piece with the Gorkha regiments of the Indian Army. The scabbard is fitted with a white-metal chape featuring a cross-shaped cutout.
